Privacy Policy

Last updated June 2026.

1031ExchangeCalc runs six free calculators and roughly fifty state capital gains tax pages. This policy goes tool by tool where it matters, so it says what actually happens to your data instead of speaking in general terms.

How the calculators handle your numbers

The 1031 Exchange Calculator, Capital Gains Tax Calculator, Depreciation Recapture Calculator, 1031 Exchange Timeline Calculator, Boot Calculator, and Capital Gains Calculator all run in JavaScript inside your browser. When you type a sale price, an adjusted basis, or a depreciation figure into one of them, that number is never sent to a server and never stored by this site. Close the tab and it is gone. The state capital gains pages work the same way; they just plug your inputs into the same client-side formulas with a different state rate applied.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics (gtag.js, measurement ID G-76MQ4M7HGQ) to see which pages get read and how visitors move between the calculators. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and collects standard traffic data such as pages viewed, approximate location, and device type. It does not receive the figures you type into a calculator; those, as covered above, stay in your browser.

Advertising

Ads on this site are served through Google AdSense (publisher ID ca-pub-9048547077838190). AdSense can use cookies to personalize ads based on your visit here and elsewhere, unless you have turned personalization off. You can review or reset the ad settings tied to your Google account at adssettings.google.com.

The cookie banner and how consent works

A banner at the bottom of the screen asks new visitors to accept or reject analytics and ad cookies before either loads. Your choice is written to your browser's local storage under the key cc-consent and used to set Google's four Consent Mode v2 signals: ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization, and analytics_storage. Choose Reject and Google Analytics and AdSense still load, as Google's Consent Mode requires, but without storage or personalization until you change your mind. Clear your browser's local storage and the banner asks again on your next visit.

The contact form

The form at /contact is handled by Web3Forms (api.web3forms.com), a third-party service this site uses instead of running its own mail server. Submitting that form sends the name, email address, and message you typed to Web3Forms, which forwards it to 1031ExchangeCalc for the sole purpose of replying to you. Nothing you enter into a calculator gets attached to a contact form submission unless you type it into the message yourself.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site, disclosed where they appear, are affiliate links. Clicking one and buying something may earn 1031ExchangeCalc a commission at no extra cost to you. That has no bearing on which calculator result you see or which page ranks above another; the math runs the same for every visitor.

Data retention

There is no visitor account system here and no database of calculator inputs to keep, since none of those inputs ever reach a server. Analytics data follows Google's standard Google Analytics retention settings, and contact form messages are kept only as long as it takes to answer them.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If the calculators, the analytics setup, or the ad provider on this site changes, this page gets updated to match and the date at the top moves with it.
